As far as I know ConsoleKit was not previously required to start up ubiquity-dm and it's dependencies. It's interesting to know which piece of software requires consolekit.

This bug is easily reproducible on lubuntu. I've tried to reproduce it with the Ubuntu daily image and can't, either by choosing 'Install Ubuntu' at the ubiquity-dm screen or by choosing it from the (not shown by default on Ubuntu) boot menu.

I think this is in some way specific to lubuntu's handling of consolekit.

As for consolekit as a dependency of ubiquity-dm, wouldn't a11y -> pulseaudio -> consolekit account for it?

thanks for the info, many people in ubuntu-quality are having it happen
intermittently, in lubuntu, xubuntu and ubuntu.

FYI the last line that nm gets to on my nexus 7 is the call to nm_client_new - it goes south from there somewhere inside network-manager.

To repro in an installed system (I'm using the nexus 7)

  - Remove [ -x /usr/bin/ubiquity-dm ] && { stop; exit 0; } from /etc/init/whoopsie.conf
  - sudo apt-get install oem-config-gtk
  - sudo touch /var/lib/oem-config/run

then reboot. You should get a black screen instead of oem-config.
