Bug Description

There is something anoying in most (all those I have tried so far) unix distribution of TeX : they do not have a fine enough tex package manager and if one needs a special tex package, he probably will have to install a whole deb package with lots a tex packages that will be useless to him.

Under Windows, there is one TEx distribution that has solved that problem with a tex package manager, it is MikTex with it's MPM. They made their MPM available for unix OS too.

The nicest thing would be to have a Tex installation that supports a MikTex like "--enable-installer" option that allow the installation of required tex package "on the fly" during compilation.

The MPM could be a first step to it, since it installs the tex packages in the LOCAL texmf tree, so it should'nt interfere wtih the distribution package manager. But ideally, there should be a such an option that allow one to install tex packages when requiered at the compilation and register them in the root texmf.
