high contrast and large font size setting is not applied in lubuntu session

Bug Description

I tried "large fonts" and "high contrast", then chose the "lubuntu" session. However, there was no noticable difference after logging in.

Testdrive for Lubuntu 14.04 LTS via virtual machine produced the same issue in regards with the fonts. However, I was able to have the contrast change.
