Bug Description

Booting Tribe 3 of Gutsy. Login screen appears with the message "User ubuntu will login in xx seconds. Waiting does not result in a login, nor does putting "ubuntu" as the username and password or any other combination I can think of. Continued waiting causes a constant rebooting of the system and a 10 second countdown between. I am operating a Sony Vaio W-30 P4 2GHZ with 1.5 Gig of RAM and a 300 gig HD.

Boot is normal (does not go to login screen on Live) when attempted on Vaio LS21N, Cor2 Duo with 2Gig RAM.

Have you verified with the CD check? I've had a similar issue with Feisty Live where sometimes it logs in fine but sometimes it asks me for username & password. A CD check revealed that 1 file failed verification. It was a bad burn; burning a new CD "solved" the issue

There, Daley suggest that on Vaio, passwords are asked but not on other computer.

Yes, like previous poster asked, verify CD.
Trying it on an other computer would be nice.

I am supposed to ask you to include some files on this bug report, but I hardly see how you would be able to do so without at least console access.

I did post a follow up saying that on another Vaio (albeit a much
newer/faster) LS21 that it does boot normally. A second burn did not fix
the problem on the original Vaio W-30.

Thanks for the input.

Sorry, seems I did read too fast. So ok, your CD does work on an other computer (a more recent Vaio).
Have you tried 'ubuntu' as username, and nothing as password (that is just Enter)?

Hey Paul,
Yes I did. That did not work either. Previous iterations worked (and
are installed) and I am downloading todays daily live currently. I will try
that to see if it resolves.

We discovered some odd things going on in the compressed file system which may have manifested itself this way. The squashfs bugs were resolved with Tribe 4 so I am curious to know if it may have fixed this issue. Could you please test with Tribe 4 on the same systems?
