Default fixed width font is "sans"

Bug Description

In a clean, fresh install of Gutsy tribe 3, the default "fixed width" font is "Sans" 12 which is not a fixed width font.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
I am not sure fontconfig is the right package, but sure there they should be able to redirect on the right one.

Maybe this have been fixed.
On Gutsy Kubuntu updated I have Monospace 9 for my KDE session.
That is in System settings/Appearance/Fonts for 'Fixed width'.

And, once I installed Gnome-Core (almost all, gedit stayed uninstalled, so officially gnome-core too),
on System/Preferences/Appearance (Fonts tab), I have Monospace 10.

Is it Ubuntu or Kubuntu?
So, if you update, do you still have "Sans 12"?
