Bug Description

Hello there!

(Once again) I am here to kindly ask for a FFE for Wallch version 4.0.

The latest version into the repositories is 3.01 and was released way back; early 2012.

Wallch 4.0 is a major improvement in the program.

UI comparison:

new: http://i.imgur.com/nRfrSp7.png

Also, other major changes took place, like:

1) Made preview screen very accurate on how the desktop will look like upon setting the selected image as background. 3.01's functionality was to simply preview the image.
2) Added many POTD features, like POTD viewer, which lets you browse and download Wikipedia Picture of the day images and added support for downloading and embedding into the image the short description of it, as many users have requested.
3) Added wallpaper clock feature. Wallpaper rotation which displays the current date/time. Alternative to having time widgets with lower CPU usage.
4) Added live website feature. Take snapshot of any website and set it as desktop background. Login is supported. E.g. you can take your Google+ homepage and set it as background (or part of it), or your facebook messages (https://www.facebook.com/messages/). All these with providing URL, username and password, and working with most sites (but able to work with 99.99% success with advanced user preferences).
5) Added many more preferences for the user to choose, like 2 themes for the UI and the indicator.
6) Fixed many bugs, such as major memory leaks and crashes.
7) Made the UI more attractive and user-friendly, rather than the plain path list of version 3.01 (this option is still available, though, for increased performance (the thumbnails are cached, anyway, but if anyone wants to have super-high performance, then he can enable the path list))

I think that in overall Wallch 4.0 is much better than Wallch 3.01 and it would be a pity to miss the inclusion into the repos of 14.04 LTS.

I am one of the upstream developers and I have personally tested this application for bugs. Same goes with Leon Vitanos, my co-developer.

Here is the PPA containing the built package: https://launchpad.net/~wallch/+archive/wallch-4.0

Thanks a lot for considering this request!

PS: I am aware that the program points to online locations like http://melloristudio.com/wallch/help that contain unfinished content, but this has nothing to do with the program itself, and the site is being worked on :D

Thanks a lot for the heads up!

Do you know where I should try my luck on finding a sponsor?

I tried at #ubuntu-devel without much luck D:

Maybe attach the files needed to sponsor, rather than just a PPA link. There hasn't been much sponsorship recently though

Uploaded. I took the liberty of
 - readding the old changelog entries
 - changing the version number to 4.0-0ubuntu1
 - adding the bug number of this bug to get it auto-closed.

Thanks.

This is currently stuck in -proposed because it dep-waits on some archs, the planned update to Qt 5.2 should fix that (the transition is expected to start tomorrow). Unsubscribing the sponsors for now.

Note that I have also uploaded a new version that doesn't hardcode the libqt5core5 package name (as it is being renamed to libqt5core5a).

Hi!
I've tried to install wallch from deb on 14.04 (64): "wallch_4.04-1trusty_amd64.deb" like up there explained, but I'm still getting the:
"Dependency is not satisfiable: libqt5core5 (>=5.0.2)
Am I missing something?
Regards,
H.

Recently in trusty libqt5core5 got replaced by libqt5core5a thus a
rebuild is required of wallch.

Dimitri.
