Bug 183429 is a duplicate of this bug report and occurred with kdebluetooth version 1.0~beta9~r734866-0ubuntu6 from Hardy. Further investigation leads me to believe that Kees's patch never really made it into the package and this bug is not fixed in Hardy or Intrepid.

Here is the relevant bit of Kees's patch to kblueplugd:

 dbus.mainloop.qt.DBusQtMainLoop(set_as_default=True)
