Bug Description

I downloade Gutsy Tribe 5 CD of Kubuntu.

1) Booted the Live CD
2) Chose Tamil as installation language
3) Installed Kubuntu
4) Restarted.

Problems:

1) The necessary Tamil Language Packs weren't installed, inspite of the Language of installation chosen as Tamil.
See: adept_screenshot_after_installation.png
2) Tamil is not available for Selection in Regional Language & System Settings. US English & British English are the default option to choose.
See: regional_language_system_settings.png
Though Tamil is available to be chosen as Default Syatem Language. (but won't have effect?)
See: regional_language_system_settings_language_selector.png
3) The scim-tables-additional, scim-modules-table were not installed by default which have the Tamil Keyboard Layouts.

Solution:

Choosing Tamil as Language of installation should install all necessary Tamil Language Packs and Scim related packages.

Thank you for your bug report. I'm not sure at all, but this might be something ubiquity could do so I'm assigning this to this package.

This looks like a duplicate of bug 131294. I would suggest you test this again with the latest daily live CD builds, but there is a unionfs error preventing them from working properly, so I will follow up when the CDs are safe to test again.

ஆமாச்சு,

Are you able to reproduce this bug in Ubuntu 8.04?

Thanks!

I think either this was a duplicate of bug 131294, as Evan suggested, or else a network connection to the archive wasn't available during installation (since Tamil support doesn't fit on the CD). Per bug 9392, Intrepid now displays a desktop notification if you end up installing with incomplete localisation like this.
