Bug Description

Ginger (a user-friendly HTML5 management interface for host management) is currently not included in Ubuntu. Ginger is a package often times associated with kimchi (for kvm guest management) and complements this w/ host config. It can also work standalone for non virtualized systems and use cases.

Currently, some restructuring in works for standalone support and deb packaging.

Ginger 1.3 is planned to be released on 2014-12, and Ginger 1.4 is planned to be released on 2014-03.

I have sent a patch to Ginger upstream ML that adds the config files to generate the debian package. I was waiting for the ML approval to push it upstream and then reply in this bug.

I believe Frederic can apply my patch in Ginger tree, generate the Debian package and continue from that point. I have created the /DEBIAN/control file but I don't know if this is enough for the "debianization" of Ginger.

After applying this patch in an Ginger master based branch, you can generate the .deb package by doing the following:

./autogen.sh --system
make
./contrib/make-deb.sh

This should create a ginger-1.2.1.1-7.<stamp>.noarch.deb in the root dir of the project.

Hi again,
here is the ITP I published to debian on ginger :

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=775747

which includes a link to the packaging I did so far.

At the moment, I addressed an issue in the code that I had to workaround in the packaging :
https://github.com/kimchi-project/ginger/issues/9

We also had a discussion around dependencies with Daniel but that should be ok, nothing harmful with the logs. Just for the record : https://github.com/kimchi-project/ginger/issues/8

F.

Thanks Fred, can you also send this ITP to Robie, he might help us to include it in Ubuntu.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1414826/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Looks like we have this in universe now for both wily/xenial.

~$ rmadison ginger
 ginger | 1.3.0.1-0ubuntu1 | wily/universe | source, amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, powerpc, ppc64el
 ginger | 1.3.0.1-0ubuntu1 | xenial/universe | source, amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, powerpc, ppc64el

I'm assuming this bug can close out rbasak?

Yes, thanks. I'm not sure why it didn't auto-close but I won't worry about that now.
