Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

I'm testing gutsy d-i i386 20071009.1 on a few-years-old laptop with a 40G hard disk. After the install (whole disk, LVM, crypto) is completed I found that:

If I ask to play the Fox and the Grapes from the Examples folder (fables_01_01_aesop.spx), Totem opens. It plays the audio almost perfectly but it has slight difficulty because it is spending a lot of the machine's power on the pretty swirling things it wants to use to fill in the otherwise-black video window. The swirls also quickly become jerky and obviously it is having trouble

These kind of effects should not be enabled if the machine does not have the power to display them properly. Furthermore, even when they are enabled, important work (eg, actualliy playing the sound file as requested) should not be interfered with.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10?
