Bug Description

Since my Upgrade from Mythbuntu 14.04 to 16.04 including upgrading MythTV 0.27 to 0.28 at the same time, after booting my system everytime i get a screen to choose my country and language.
After setting this, the frontend crasches with the following message:

Restarting Frontend
The front-end crashed unexpextedly
(exit code 130) and is restarting.
Please wait...

After a few seconds (after restarting) all works fine.
But on the next system boot, the same procedure appears again.

After upgrading my Mythbuntu Backend from 14.04.4 (0.28) to 16.04.1 (0.28) I am obtaining the same Exit Code 130. In my case all 14.04.4 (0.28) and 16.04.1 (0.28) Frontends running other Ubuntu Machines (all on the same LAN), are also effected!

NOTE: My Set Top Box (OpenELEC 6.0.3 running on a Raspberry Pi 3), was Unaffected by the Upgrade of the Mythtbuntu (0.28) Backend, it continues to function correctly as a KODI Frontend!

Same here. initially I upgraded my 14.04 mythtv version and thought it to be a compatibility issue but it keeps crashing on a freshly installed 16.04 too.

I also upgraded my backend to 16.04 with the mythbuntu image and interestingly enough that machine is working just fine, running a combined backend/frontend.

mythtv 0.28 just keeps crashing on any other machine despite using the same repositories as my backend machine. No idea what's going on since the error is a segfault and quite obscure

Solved for me. Version 0.28 doesn't seem to jump to the settings page if there's a connection problem so i had to edit the config files in /etc/mythtv/config.xml and ~/.mythtv/config.xml to stop the endless bootloop. Found here: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2326359
