Bug Description

When restoring the system after suspend or hibernate the screen is correctly restored as I can see the screen asking for my password. But the restored desktop is completely corrupted. When I use the Super+E key to change desktop I can see that the desktop is working as the zoom effect is applied, but it is applied to a corrupted screen. The only way I found to exit this state is to kill the X server with Ctrl+Alt+BkSpace.

This is a freshly installed Ubuntu 7.10 Gusty, so with compiz-fusion desktop enabled with standard effects.

I suspect that some parts of the 3D video state is not correctly restored.

Xorg driver is "intel".

Why?

Compiz integration is the major feature brought by Gutsy. And it brings major usability improvemnts (zoom in particular). I do not want to disable it for daily use.
If you want I try to disable it for testing or reporting information about my system, please elaborate which tests I should do.

We need to see, what exactly is the problem of you suspen/resume issues. At the moment we know three major problems with same graphic chip on different PC:
1. enabled 3D effects ( compiz ).
to test this, please disable compiz and try to suspend / resume your PC

2. workaround to resume your graphic
please read this:

3. kernel

This appears to be fixed in:
  xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.1.1-0ubuntu9.1

No more problem with hibernate, no more problem with suspend. The screen is restored fine.

However I now have a problem with screen refresh. I can not improve the refresh rate above 60 Hz (monitor: HP 7540). I'll will investigate and open another issue.

This is fixed since xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.1.1-0ubuntu9.1 (maybe even before).
This is still fixed in Ubuntu Hardy: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13.4
So closing the bug.

Changed in xserver-xorg-video-intel:
status: New → Fix Released

I don't think that the bug is related directly to Compiz.

I think that the bug was in the restoration of the 3D part of the Intel driver after hibernation. Anyway, this is fixed now.

Changed in compiz:
