phpgroupware does not install properly

Bug Description

After apt-get install phpgroupware, and choosing mysql for database, it is possible to go to
localhost/phpgroupware/setup
 but the following error ensues:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect() in /usr/share/phpgroupware/phpgwapi/inc/class.db_mysql.inc.php on line 82

Seems like you are missing the mysql extension for your webserver. Do you have everything installed as required? What versions are you using?

Had the same problem; was solved after (re)creating the phpgroupware database with Latin collation in stead of UTF8

Marking as invalid as it seems that this was an isolated issue caused by a misconfiguration on Ace's machine.
If you still expericene this bug and think it's related to the default configuration shipped with the phpgroupware package, feel free to change the status again!

you must install php5-mysql
restart mysql
restart apache
