Bug Description

After "Willkommen bei Ubuntu", it continues with:

"This is a live CD-ROM for Ubuntu
7.10. It was built on 20071016."

Including the unfortunate and unnecessary line break in front of the version number.
The date would look better as "2007-10-16".

No idea if this is also not translated in the other languages.

Thanks for your report. Ubuntu gets its translations from the translations portion of Launchpad at http://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/, where translation teams work on making Ubuntu more useful in their language. If you want to change or add to translations of the boot menu, you can do so at https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/gutsy/+source/debian-installer/ .

The build date is taken directly from the variable ${BUILD_DATE}, and isn't part of the translation. The line break also exists in other languages. Consider filing separate bugs in the debian-installer package for these issues.

It was probably translated after the translation deadline, and didn't make it into the release.

Hmm. On that page I read "Template "help" in Ubuntu Gutsy package "debian-installer" at the top and it was translated on 2007-06-03. NonLanguagePackTranslationDeadline was 2007-10-04.

It can be a good idea to ask a question in Launchpad Translations as to why exactly this is the case. Please link your question to this bug.

So according to https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/rosetta/+question/19456, it seems that the debian installer doesn't use language packs, making the inclusion of translations a manual task.

Perhaps this makes this bug valid?

The export I took on 5 Oct 2007 (the day after the translation deadline) had the German translation of this string marked as fuzzy, which means that it isn't used. A future export will no doubt be OK.

The point about the line break is legitimate, and seems to be a real bug somewhere.

It seems you've already filed separate bugs for the substantive issue here. I'm afraid the German string was just translated too late, apparently after I did the export. Sorry.

Changed in debian-installer:
assignee: nobody → kamion
status: New → Invalid

By the way, "fuzzy" corresponds to the state in Launchpad where it tells you that the translation needs to be reviewed.
