Bug Description

[SRU]
When attempting to run doomsday 1.15.8-3 on Ubuntu 17.04 it immediately segfaults.

This (and a separate segfault which happens when attempting to start a new game, see https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=863536) are both resolved in Debian with version 1.15.8-5. It has been synced to Ubuntu Artful so the issue should be resolved for future releases, but is still present in 17.04.

[Impact]
doomsday 1.15.8-3 on Ubuntu 17.04 currently fails to start.

[Testcase]
This is twofold due to the two segfaults.

(As a prerequisite, install a package with game data, for instance `doom-wad-shareware`)
1. Run `doomsday` to start the "game launcher"
Test A: the program should not segfault.
2. From the list of available games, pick one, for instance DOOM shareware.
3. Start a new game of Doom (Press escape, then select New game -> Single player -> Knee-deep in the dead -> Hurt me plenty.
Test B: the game should not segfault.
4. Run around in the game for a while.
5. Have fun :)

[Regression Potential]
The program is currently crashing instead of starting, so I'm not sure how much it can regress.

Fixed the status to point to zesty, but I don't have time right now to look at this more closely.

Hello Hans, or anyone else affected,

Accepted doomsday into zesty-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/doomsday/1.15.8-3ubuntu0.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from verification-needed-zesty to verification-done-zesty. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-zesty. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!

Tested on and Ubuntu 17.04 virtual machine (amd64)

After installing the package from -proposed I was no longer able to trigger any segfaults. Played for a while, but didn't spot any regressions.

In conclusion, marking this as verified.

This bug was fixed in the package doomsday - 1.15.8-3ubuntu0.1

---------------
doomsday (1.15.8-3ubuntu0.1) zesty; urgency=medium

  * Add patches to fix the following issues:
    - segfault on startup (Closes: #847651. Fixes LP: #1700822)
    - segfault when attempting to start a new game (Closes: #863536)
    - make the build reproducible (Closes: #858333)
  * Effectively this adds the same patches as in 1.15.8-5, therefore
the reproducible build patch is included as well to keep the delta
to that version to a minimum.
