Bug Description
Hi,
the problem is a little bit similar to bug #77504.
After installing new packages I got the same error message as mentioned in the other bugreport as follows:
"There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.
Somethings, such as themes,sounds,or
background settings may not work correctly.
The Last error message was:
Did not receive a reply.Possible cause include:
The remote application did not send a reply, the
message bus security policy blocked the reply,
the reply timeout expired or the network
connection was broken.
GNOME will still try to restart the setting
Daemon next time you log in."
I will attach a screenshot showing you my desktop with wrong theme and some error messages and the .xsession-errors file shortly.
Noticeable things that stops working:
- update-notifier
- panel is disordered
- network connections applet (don't know the correct name right now, because language is switched to german and I cannot find out how to change back to english)
- glipper
btw - I could reproduce this on another machine as well and I can provide some really strange screenshots if needed ....
Is there a way to restore the original default ubuntu settings?
greetings
reinhard
Hi again,
I also noticed that this problem seems to have some side effect on the kde side, since some applets was automatically removed from the panel, e.g.:
- k menu
- taskbar
- analog clock
- klipper
- system menu
please tell me when more info is needed!
greetings
reinhard
