Bug Description

http://wiki.xmms2.xmms.se/index.php/Main_Page

The latest version of xmms2 (DrKosmos) has been out for over a month. The current Ubuntu package is based on XMMS2 0.2 (DrJekyll), which is over a year old. It'd be great if this could be updated.

I've edited the bug into an "upgrade" one. "needs-packaging" bugs are meant for new packages that aren't in Ubuntu.

I have compiled XMMS2 0.4DrKosmos-2 without changes and it works for me. So it must only synced with Debian.

The maintenence of this package seems very strange. The last update to DrJekyll version occured _after_ the release of DrKosmos. Now 5 months post DrK release the package has still not been updated to the latest version, and a really really old and broken version of XMMS2 goes into the LTS release of Ubuntu, it's all a bit o_O....

However... the next release DrL is about to happen within the month now, so it's better to wait for DrL to happen before upgrading.

I'm not sure if it is simply appropriate to place my vote for help in upgrading the package, but I'd like to do so and mention that the current version is quite buggy to the point of being barely usable. I very much hope that when DrL comes out, we might see a good package, as there is no player quite comparable to xmms2 (minus mpd, which has a few silly limitations).

You can find the source code for intrepid on my ppa ( http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14782120/xmms2_0.4DrKosmos-4ubuntu1.diff.gz http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14782121/xmms2_0.4DrKosmos-4ubuntu1.dsc http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14782119/xmms2_0.4DrKosmos.orig.tar.gz ).

I do not remove faad dependency, because the faad packages are in universe since hardy. This would also fix bug #156359.

Subscribing ubuntu-universe-sponsors again.
