Bug Description

http://www.math.helsinki.fi/openbugs/

"BUGS (Bayesian inference Using Gibbs Sampling) is a piece of computer software for the Bayesian analysis of complex statistical models using Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods. It has been developing and maturing over the years, and is probably best known in its WinBugs incarnations. The latest version can run on Windows and Linux, as well as from inside the R statistical package.

The programme is available for download from the Software page. The distribution now includes the source code. The Manuals explain how to use BUGS, and there is also a large number of Examples. "

Seconded !

Possibly helpful hints :

  - make the amd64 version of the package depend on ia32libs (universe, therefore openbugs must go to universe, too...) : I've been bitten twice in as much weeks... BTW, I'm not too optimistic about a future 64 bits version of OpenBUGS. The curious choice of compiler/library bites back...

  - This package should recommend R (r-base, r-recommended and so-on...) and r-cran-coda.

  - A possible virtual package, bus-mcmc-sampler, could depend on openbugs or jags (universe, too, mainained by Dirk Ettelbuettel).

OpenBUGS is dead upstream and it's not possible to build it on a Linux system. They are some equivalent in Ubuntu repo like JAGS.
