Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

I would really like a straight line cursor, like the one found in text editors and similar. I've never understood the block type cursor found in many terminal applications.

I don't believe that there is currently an option to change the cursor to a vertical line. You can turn off the blinking of the block cursor within the profile preferences, however.

Not sure if that helps or not.

Uhm, this bug is most definitely not a duplicate of bug #188732. It's not about whether the cursor blinks or not, but about it appearing as a block instead of a line.

While we're at it, I'd like to request an underscore style cursor, like the one used in text mode and the old DOS. But mainly for nostalgic reasons. ;-)

So, this is now implemented in gnome-terminal, will it automatically be included in an upcoming upgrade of Ubuntu?

Markus, no, that's likely going to the GNOME 2.25 cycle which means Intrepid+1, the feature includes some changes in the UI which cannot be inserted in the stable release because of the freeze, at this stage only bug fixes and performance fixes are allowed. thanks for reporting.
