Bug Description

Binary package hint: gfxboot-theme-ubuntu

When pressing F6 on the boot menu, the boot options appear. There is the string "Boot Options", a small space and the kernel options follow.

For many languages the string "Boot Options" does not fit in the given space, and the translated text is cut-off. Also there is no space between that an the kernel options, making the latter hard to read.

I attach 2 screenshots, one for English (correct) and one for Greek (incorrect). The Greek text should be "Ρυθμίσεις εκκίνησης" and it only shows "Ρυθμίσεις εκκί".

Confirmed; unfortunately this is messy to fix for 8.04. Perhaps 8.04.1.

I'm new to Linux, so I'm having some trouble understanding how to fix this issue.

I look at at the pic that was posted above and the "boot options" looks the same way as the pic.
Not sure if im suppose to change something. please help! thank you.

This is in a particularly hairy part of the operating system; if you're new to Linux I would not advise starting here.

I have an approximate idea of what to do, and expect to fix it when I have some spare time.

I'm not going to be able to manage this for 8.04.1, unfortunately.

Just so that I don't have to work it out again: the problem is that boot.ed (and boot.ed.width) need to be adjusted for different text widths, and that isn't being done at the moment.

German users have the same problem (see attached screenshot). The F6 option should read "Weitere Optionen", but just "Wei" is readable. Maybe changing "Tastaturbelegung" to just "Tastatur" would help a bit. Maybe the translators can also find a shorter word for "Barrierefreiheit"...

ronny: No, that's a different problem, namely bug 81458.
