Bug Description
Binary package hint: hwtest
I first checked the wired connection, it was ok, then I unplugged the cable to check my wireless, then tried to add my (non-broadcasting) AP name, at that point the network manager icon disappeared from the topbar, then I re-ran the internet connection test, at some point a crash report icon appeared.
I'm not sure about the exact order of events though.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
I looked at the code for internet_test which still exists as part of checkbox, the successor to hwtest, and it has changed significantly; the "def_gateway" variable which triggered the problem because it was referenced before being defined no longer exists. Thus, I'll mark this bug as invalid since hwtest and Ubuntu 8.04 have reached End of Life and the replacement software apparently no longer has this problem.
