The adduser warning is (AFAIK) harmless.

I'm open to suggestions on changes to make to get the milter to run when there
are no keys setup (I can see this being useful for a verify only
configuration).

Yes. That's the same problem. Once you provide a key for DKIM signing, the package will start and the install will finish.

How do you provide a key for DKIM signing? is there a configuration file that needs to be changed somewhere? any help here would be appreciated.

See man dkim-genkey for information on key generation. The config file
is /etc/dkim-filter.

  * Change exit code to trap for no key configured to 78 so the trap works

exiting to initial package install can complete (LP: #228877)

A package that fixes this problem has been published in the hardy-proposed repository. You can enable hardy-proposed by adding it to your sources.list, update, and then install dkim-filter. Personally, I recommend disabling it after that and not leaving it enabled.

Please go ahead and install/test the package and report back here on how it goes.

You should add this to /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hardy-proposed main

Then:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install dkim-filter

That should get you the new package. Then comment that line out
of /etc/apt/sources.list (add a # to the start of the line) and the

sudo apt-get update again.
