I guess that is done by design (just do cat /usr/bin/rkward to see for yourself) but I wonder if it is still necessary...

This bug was fixed in the package rkward - 0.5.1-0ubuntu1

---------------
rkward (0.5.1-0ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (LP: #409316)
   - Don't open a terminal when rkward is launched (LP: #238231)
  * Drop inline patch on rkward/rkward.cpp. There is no message in the
    new version.
  * debian/control
   - Re-enable build-depends on cmake and libphonon-dev, upstream specify it
     in configuration and Debian want to keep it (see debian bug #531086).
  * debian/watch: Add.
