Bug Description

Daily build CD 07/12/2008 install hangs forever after starting partman and printing out brief message about detecting file systems.

As best I can copy by hand from /usr/log/installer/debug:

File "usr/lib/ubiquity/contents/partman.py" line 302
subst self.resize_arg_size int(value)
Value error invalid literal for int(10) with base 10: '10.5 GB'

This is a triple boot system, Xubuntu's Intrepid Alpha 1, gutsy, hardy all installed. 10.5 GB is the size of one of the partitions.

Both install from boot screen and CD Live install hang at the same point. Do note this is a Dell Celeron 1 GHz with 256 MB which runs fine on Alpha 1, but may not have enough memory for Alpha 2 iso.

Could you please attach /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman to this bug, following the directions in http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity/AttachingLogs? Thanks in advance.

When the installer hangs, I wait a long time to be sure and then try a close. There's a message "install not responding, wait or close". I select close, the message disappears then the graphical interface won't do anything. I did a Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to get a terminal to view log/installer/debug on the screen; this is CD Live so I'll see if I can find a place to store syslog and partman that will survive a restart.

Subsequent to getting this install hang the announcement came out that Alpha 2 Alternate Install iso should be used, not the CD Live.

Install worked from the Alternate. I'm making this entry from Alpha 2.

Therefore this bug should be closed, however that's done. I'll try again when the CD Live is O.K. to be used.

Daily Build Ubuntu 20080724 (this scheduled to be Alpha 3?) gets a lot farther. CD Live install gets to 96%, "Removing GpartEd" and the system freezes altogether. Only way out is hardware reset so I can't get any data.

Try booting anyway, as desktop is coming up get a message "User Switcher has quit" and system freezes. No way to get any data.

Oh, well, try again with tomorrow's build. I'm entering this from Alpha 2 alternate install dual booted on the same hardware which is running fine for an "ordinary desktop user" some minor anklebiters.

Xubuntu Intrepid Ibex 20080724 successful install from desktop. In contrast Ubuntu install froze.

Xubuntu install configuration file 2008 07 24 23:53:32 worked fine.

In Xubuntu packages to remove, I didn't see GPartEd however they flick by so fast I may have missed it. Removal of GPartEd froze the Ubuntu install.

Bug resolved by later 20080724 build, the one that is designated Alpha 3. Install worked as expected with no hang when removing GpartED package.

Thanks, Jerry
