Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

I have added my device to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NetworkManager/Hardware/3G but have not been able to get it working yet, apparently due to a provider lock. I've documented my work so far on http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/HSDPA_WWAN.

AT+CPIN? evokes the response "+CPIN: PH-NET PIN" which NetworkManager doesn't recognize (it logs "check_pin_done(): PIN checking timed out"). It should instead prompt the user for a code and provide that to the device with AT+CPIN="foo".

To get your fix included in Ubuntu, it would help if you tried transforming it into a debdiff (http://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Recipes/Debdiff) and submit it for review (http://wiki.ubuntu.com/SponsorshipProcess). If you prefer somebody else to do that, that's fine - please just indicate if you're available to do that.

It doesn't fix the problem as-is, and thus isn't appropriate to upload.
It's just demonstrating the problem more than anything else.

this is understood, its just not understood what we want. Usually users wont have the provider lock code. But not giving any feedback to the user isn't really good either. So I still think we should present the user with a "unlock" dialog where they can enter their code.

The status of bug 604551 upstream indicates this is not yet resolved. I've updated the bug watch to point to that bug, rather than bug 562034 which was for the submission of the patch. This patch was never intended to fix the problem, though, only to fail in a more graceful way. Since upstream is working on a proper fix, the patch is obsolete.

It seems this was eventually fixed upstream (and likely in all current Ubuntu releases).
