This is an applet-specific bug, reassigning to a more appropriate package.

Could you please install the Awn/Awn Extras packages from the Awn Testing PPA <http://wiki.awn-project.org/DistributionGuides#Testing_Package_Archive> and confirm whether the bug occurs in those packages?

Nope, after activating and deactivating it a few times (without something happening in the dock), it crashed again and apport popped up. I could not send my information because it was not from an official repository.

Could someone experiencing the bug run awn from a terminal and copy and paste any terminal output (into this bug) when trying to start shinyswitcher?

Also of interest is the Window Managers in use.

Brion,

Thanks for the terminal output... it was actually close to what I thought.

A few additional questions:

Do you use a desktop background?

If you do use a desktop background are you using a compiz specific plugin to manage it?

If you are using a background what are the settings? specifically tiled, scaled, zoomed, centered etc.

If you are using a background is your desktop being managed by nautilus or some other application (what)?

Thanks,

... is your desktop being managed by nautilus or some other application (what)? I assume nautilus, but all I have for a desktop is a single gnome panel with only the clock applet in it, awn, and (since after the initial bug report) gnome-do. The desktop management was left to the Ubuntu/gnome defaults - I haven't replaced it explicitly.

Hope this helps.

I've put in some additional checks and added a few assertions (that will crash the applet if they happen but will give useful terminal output) as of revision 886 of trunk. Anyone building from source can test them now. Those using the awn-testing ppa will get the updated code on the next ppa update.
