Bug Description

Binary package hint: libgems-ruby1.8

Ubuntu intrepid 8.10

libgems-ruby1.8 has a conflict with rubygems1.8. It recommends package "rubygems" instead. Unfortunately, that package is a empty meta-package.

Steps to reproduce:

$ sudo apt-get install libgems-ruby1.8
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  libbreakpoint-ruby1.8 libcmdparse2-ruby1.8 rake libmocha-ruby1.8
  libredcloth-ruby1.8 libruby libsqlite3-ruby1.8 liblog4r-ruby1.8
  libbuilder-ruby1.8 libncurses-ruby1.8 liberb-ruby libmmap-ruby1.8
  libdaemons-ruby1.8 libxml-simple-ruby libisc41
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.

This is bad, as it disallows the installation of rails together with libgems-ruby.

Hi,

These packages rightfully conflict as they contain some of the same
files.

Hi,

Sorry, I hit submit before I had finished.

The problem here is that libruby-extras depends on libgems-ruby1.8
when it should depend on rubygems1.8, as the former is being removed.

I am just about to upload a fixed package.

This bug was fixed in the package libruby-extras - 0.4ubuntu2

libruby-extras (0.4ubuntu2) intrepid; urgency=low

  * Change libgems-ruby1.8 -> rubygems1.8 in Depends, as the former is
    no longer built. (LP: #257110)
    - Package should be eligible for syncing next cycle.
