Bug Description

Binary package hint: tasque

There should be a man page included in the tasque package.

Details:
1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu.
$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.
$ apt-cache policy tasque
tasque:
  Installed: 0.1.6-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.1.6-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 0.1.6-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net hardy/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What you expected to happen
$ man tasque
{ The man page should appear with a nice summary and relevant command-line switches }

4) What happened instead
$ man tasque
No manual entry for tasque
See 'man 7 undocumented' for help when manual pages are not available.

I've created a simple man page and added it to the build script. The content was gleaned from the Tasque website, AUTHORS file, and using `tasque --help` for command parameters. I've done my best to follow the packaging guidelines as described in the PackagingGuide [1]. Let me know if there's anything else needed.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. One small but important thing is missing: You have to subscribe ubuntu-universe-sponsors. I have done it now for you. For details have a look https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SponsorshipProcess.

It would be good, if you send your patch to the upstream authors, so that they can include it into their upstream project. If they reject you can report this patch to Debian.

One more thing: You have to create a debdiff agains the current development Ubuntu version and not against a PPA version. You can download the current source package for intrepid on http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/tasque.

Hi Benjamin,

Thank you for your feedback. I'll admit that I'm not too familiar with the packaging process, so I appreciate the pointers. Thank you for subscribing the bug for sponsorship as necessary.

I'll make a new debdiff later today based on the intrepid package. I didn't realize tasque was slated to be included in Intrepid-- cool. :)

tasque was automatically synced from Debian unstable (http://packages.qa.debian.org/t/tasque.html). So you can thank the Debian guys.

Hi all,

I've created a new debdiff against the latest version in intrepid (currently 0.1.6-1ubuntu1). Let me know if everything is allright. Once somebody takes a look over it and it looks ok, perhaps we can think of sending it up to Debian as well.

One thing: Please add a reference to this bug, so that this bug is closed automatically when the new version is release. To do so, you change the changelog entry from "Add man page" to "Add man page (LP: #260576)"

It would be great to get this upstream. ;-)

Hi Scott,

Would you please file a bug with your man-page upstream at

  http://bugzilla.gnome.org/browse.cgi?product=Tasque

and I, or someone else, will then sponsor it.

Thanks,

James

I've filed a bug with upstream debian, #554487. Sorry for the delay-- I tried completing the patch in debian using their reportbug tool, but obviously that didn't work. The upstream patch also contains the manpage I've put together, so hopefully it will get accepted.

Hi,

You actually filed a bug all the way upstream with the authors
of Tasque, but that's even better :-)

I'll do the upload tomorrow if no-one else gets to it first.

Thanks.

James

Hi,

I have just uploaded this, thank you for your contribution.

One little thing that I had to adjust was to change the maintainer field.
To find out why we do this please read

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebianMaintainerField

Also, reading the bug report you filed with the authors of the
software suggested that there may be a little confusion over
the meaning of "upstream." This page tries to explain a little
about the term:

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment#Upstream

The page on distributions.freedesktop.org that that links to
has even more information. Feel free to ask if you have any
questions.

Thanks,

James
