Advent 4211

sudo dmidecode -s system-version

I'm getting errors in messages concerning what I think are laptop hotkeys. However I don't know which key is triggering the error..

Aug 26 18:48:26 laptot kernel: [ 51.032520] atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed (translated set 2, code 0xf7 on isa0060/serio0).

They appear during boot when I'm not pressing any keys. It is only these two - e077 and e078.

I'm running Hardy with netbook remix.

It happens with MSI Wind U90x in Intreprid too, without pressing any keys.

Same issue here. This is more serious because it's probably keeps LCD from turning off.
Try to do this in terminal:
# sudo dmesg -c
(This will print debug information and clear the buffer, so next time you execute "dmesg" it should give you empty output)

# xset dpms force off && dmesg

It will give you this output:

[ 697.792010] atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed (translated set 2, code 0xf7 on isa0060/serio0).
[ 697.792037] atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e077 <keycode>' to make it known.
[ 697.795261] atkbd.c: Unknown key released (translated set 2, code 0xf7 on isa0060/serio0).
[ 697.795271] atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e077 <keycode>' to make it known.

and what is worse, it won't actually let you keep your screen off. Instead it will:
1. turn off LCD for a second or two
2. Blink image of your desktop for a second
3. Blank your LCD (You will see black screen, but with LCD backlight still on)

I'm using MSI Wind U100

This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. Hi Caroline,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 261635

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Thanks for the update Caroline. Since you are the original bug reporter I'm going to close this bug for now.

@Konstantin Lavrov, if you can please test the latest Karmic images and if the issue remains, open a new bug report. Thanks.

Hi Pyrox
This bug was marked as "Won't Fix" because there is no confirmation on advent 4211.

As for LG X110 you could solve this "Unknown key pressed" messages by making them known.
I prepare fdi (in attachment) to add here /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/

But this leads to new problem at least in my Ubuntu 9.04:

Screen flickering (brightness up and down continuously) accurs when screen-off event happens.
To check it without waiting for what time in gnome-power-preferences is set I use
xset dpms force off

After that I see flickering until kill gnome-power-manager.

Not sure if it is related to gnome-power-manager. There are bugs already filed about similar problem and not only on MSI WIND.

If you'll find this flickering on your LG X110 with Karmic let's file new bug.

Thank you! That solves the problem for me.
On Karmic there is no flickering.
