Bug Description

Binary package hint: webalizer

The Webalizer program was updated in mid July for the first time in 6 years. The program author states that everyone should update to the new version. I posted a question as to when this package would be updated for Ubuntu and was asked to file a bug report.

Version 2.01 is in the repositories.
Version 2.20 is the latest stable version.

I have noticed that there are some real improvements in the new version. And the new version is a drop-in replacement of the old one.

Please do update this package for Jaunty!

I have sent an email to the debian mantainer to see if there are plans to include this in experimental or something like that.

In any case it would be worthwhile to help him with the update into debian so we can sync it into Ubuntu instead of importing the update ourselves.

The closest to upstream we work, the better for the whole free software ecosystem.

       Yes. :)

I'm a little bit behind my schedule but I do plan
to have it uploaded this month.

This mean that the new webalizer has a fair chance of making it into the karmic cycle which is awesome news for us lovers of simple statistics tool :-)

Debian rocks! (and since ubuntu is debian: Ubuntu rocks!)

I think that a motu should do the upgrade for Ubuntu and don't wait for the original maintainer. Because the request for upgrading webalizer is 1 year old in Debian

I will try to drag attention to this in a planet post soon :-)

The Debian bug, 491200, is now 2.5 years old and also still waiting. The package maintainer on the Debian side said he was way behind due to real life, back on 04 Feb 2009. Nothing in that bug history either in the years since. I think one of us needs to some how step up if there is ever any hope of seeing this updated. On the Debian side, there is even a note that there are IPv6 fixes that have come into product that I am sure some would like to see in Ubuntu.

If anyone can point me toward the resources I need to investigate becoming the package maintainer, I will at least read and investigate. I do appreciate the package in it's current form but some of the new features sound very interesting.

Besides the "Does the bug effect you?" link at the top, does anyone know a way of voting the priority higher on a bug in launchpad or Debian bug tracking?

Stephen
