Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Ubuntu 8.10 alpha 5 after install I was unable to change appearance, visual effects from none. The hardware drivers had both Nvidia 173 and 177 driver available but neither work despite being downloaded and installed by the restricted drivers panel.

I subsequently downloaded the Beta 177.70 from Nvidia built and installed it. Now Compiz, and setting work ok but Hardware Drivers report no proprietary drivers are in use on this system, but Nvidia setting are all correct, is this anew feature?

Could you attach the output of 'compiz --replace' with the drivers supplied by Ubuntu? (This sounds like an nvidia driver bug, but let's check ...)
