This bug is a regression because the mmsh streams worked properly before Hardy. Hardy and Intrepid is affected by this bug.

I also cinfirm this information. Unfotunetly the online streams of hirt.net, do not work! Entweder an Hardy nor an Intrepid!

I beg Your pardon for the bad english, it will be so correct now (I hope): I also confirmed this bug an Hardy and an the Intrepid. I tryd this stream, to play with many mediaplayers, (vlc, totem, mplayer etc...certanly with the plugins of Firefox!), but the results are same. No picture and sound! Generally I use the Totem with Gstreamer. When I wish to start this stream, I get always this bug. This application wish (application/x-mmsh) x-mmsh adjunct. That is it , what I know to write about this bug.
This is the correct siteadress: http://www.hirtv.hu/?tPath=/view/videoview&videoview_id=701
and afterwords, You have to click to "Késletetett adás".

Yours sincerely:

The bug exists in Jaunty too (9.04beta).
Any solution or workaround ?

This bug still exists in Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04.

eg. on http://www.tv8montblanc.com/fre_FR/accueil.php

Because this bug didn't exist before Hardy, surely it should be possible to fix far more easily?

It seems totem with gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad doesn't play "application/x-mmsh" type strings in other Linux distros too, look for example at ArchLinux forum:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=53460

I've tested http://www.lrt.lt/ltv-LT-high.asx with Ubuntu 9.04 (gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad are installed on my system) and got exactly same problem as in ArchLinux. Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT) public broadcaster cares only about Windows users :(

Same on ubuntu jaunty 9.04 gstreamer0.10-plugins: base, bad, ugly, good. I even tried the multiverse ones. Nothing, not even mplayer will play MMS streams!

Is there anyone willing to investigate this? Already 9 months have passed without any tangible benefit and even without changing of the bug's 'NEW' status. Do you need any additional data to keep it going or what? Keeping it all silent won't solve the issue, it persists. Would you at least mind to ping upstream on this?

I found solution for http://www.lrt.lt/ltv-WLD-vid.asx :

mplayer mmshttp://86.38.0.225:81

It works on jaunty with gstreamer0.10-plugins-* installed.

This bug is very important for Lithuanian users, because our national TV (LRT.lt) uses mmsh for internet TV translations :(
So, I'm providing very short instructions how to watch http://lrt.lt/tv in Lithuanian language:

LRT tiesiogines transliacijas galite žiūrėti ir Ubuntu ar Baltix GNU/Linux sistemose įdiegę gecko-mediaplayer programą bei nustatę, kad ši programa būtų pagrindinis Firefox naršyklės video grotuvas. Tai paprasčiausia padaryti įvykdžius šią komandą:

sudo apt-get install totem-mozilla- gecko-mediaplayer

I try this:

    sudo apt-get install gecko-mediaplayer

after install I try play embedded http://stream3.hirtv.net/hirtv.asf stream from hungarian TV.
www.hirtv.hu -> "Késleltetett adás" in left side frame.

I got this debug massage:

no plugin available and the lack of plugin won't even load a lauchpad request so I'm here doing it manually :P

I have this problem in Kubuntu 11.04 in Natty. I test the browsers Firefos and Chromium with identic results. With Totem or MPlayer plugins for browsers have the same problem. And i have all the packages you said.

But i test with this page http://www.marca.com/multimedia/directo/marcatv.html and i see something. The URL for the stream object is http://reflector.marca.com:9002 but if i change this for mms://reflector.marca.com:9002 (I download the page and change the html code) it works without any problem. With Totem plugin or MPlayer plugin.

if the problem is how it handle or detect http to mms content, do a workaround or a patch it isn't too difficult.
