Bug Description

Binary package hint: hal-info

This stick is the T-Mobile Web 'n Walk stick.

To make it work with ubuntu, please add the following section to 10-modem.fdi

<!-- Option GIO225 -->
<match <email address hidden>:usb.vendor_id" int="0x0af0">
       <match <email address hidden>:usb.product_id" int="0x6971">
          <match <email address hidden>:usb.interface.number" int="0">
             <match key="serial.port" int="0">
               <append key="modem.command_sets" type="strlist">GSM-07.07</append>
               <append key="modem.command_sets" type="strlist">GSM-07.05</append>
             </match>
          </match>
        </match>
      </match>

After adding this and installing usb_modeswitch or ReZero this works beautifully with NetworkManager

Hi,

Can you please attach /var/log/dmesg and /var/log/syslog at the time of
plugging in and connecting, as well as the output of lsusb and lshal?

Maybe I can see where the problem lies then.

Here it is (reboot, graphical login then plug USB key).

Note I'm sure the USB and PIN (0000) work since one another Linux computer (ACER Aspire One with Linpus) I can connect with network manager.

Thanks for your kind help.

Note: with /etc/init.d/NetworkManager stop and following the instructions here:

http://www.equinoxefr.org/post/2008/04/21/la-clef-orange-icon-225-sur-ubuntu-804

(installing hso v1.6 kernel module and two utilites) the 3G connection works on my intrepid computer so there's no reason why NetworkManager can't do it :)

NetworkManager detects the device just fine, so the piece above actually works,
it looks like NM is unable to unlock the device with the PIN you enter.

Try putting the SIMcard in your phone, or the stick in a windows computer, and turning of the PIN.
Then try connecting again.

If not, file another bug about it ;-)

I couldn't find where the PIN is stored, I wonder why the very same PIN fails with NM and works with the alternate scripts and tools. I'll see what I can report.

Just try to disable PIN security on your SIM.
If you desperately need a PIN on it,
File another bug report about it not connecting with PIN, but then again, you'll have to check if it does connect without a PIN.
