Bug Description

After a fresh install of Intrepid on PS3, ps3-kboot fails to automatically find and mount the target partition /dev/ps3da1. The problem can be worked around by using e2label to set the filesystem lable to "/":

  e2label /dev/ps3da1 "/"

Once this has been done ps3-kboot correct finds the target partition and the system can be booted.

This used to work in previous versions of Ubuntu for PS3, so something has changed, most likely in the installer.

I don't recall changing anything even somewhat related to partition labels ...

Ah, I think I see it. This was a partman-base change that kboot-installer didn't keep up with.

This bug was fixed in the package kboot-installer - 0.0.1ubuntu7

---------------
kboot-installer (0.0.1ubuntu7) intrepid; urgency=low

  * Adjust partman/update.d/21kboot_sync_label for move of definitions.sh to
    lib/base.sh (LP: #285231).

I am using the released version of 8.10 in a fresh install, and am getting this same issue, I am just stuck in an infinite loop in the kboot prompt. What do I need to type in which prompt (kboot/ash) to fix this and implement this workaround? When will it actually be fixed? I am surprised that we have a release of 8.10 which can't even boot after installation, that's a really bad start for lots of people trying Linux on their PS3 for the first time.
