Bug Description
Binary package hint: ubiquity
The Kubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) Beta amd64 Desktop livecd provides a number of boot options, like "Try Ubuntu Without Installing", "Install Ubuntu", "Check CD For Defects", and so forth. If the user opts to try without installing, everything works fine, including installation via the "Install" icon on the Desktop.
If the user choses the "Install" boot option, he gets a Desktop environment with a blank/empty Ubiquity window on an all-black background with no Task Manager at the bottom of the screen. Attempting to close the Ubiquity window has no effect. This is on a Thinkpad T61 with an Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c).
This would probably confuse the heck out of someone who doesn't know you can also install via the "Try Ubuntu Without Installing" boot option.

It's possible that this is hardware-specific, but I'll have to try it to find out. The download has an ETA of 3 hours, though, so it'll take a while ...
It is of course deliberate that the Task Manager is missing. That's the point of the "Install Kubuntu" mode - it saves memory and provides a simpler environment by not starting a full desktop. Of course it does go rather wrong if Ubiquity fails to start up usefully, which isn't meant to happen!
