Bug Description

Binary package hint: abiword-help

In using Abiword I was inserting page numbers and clicked the Help button. I got a Firefox msg that said it couldn't find the html doc at the path it was looking in: /usr/share/abiword-2.6/AbiWord/help/en-US/interface/dialogpagenumbers.html

I took a look at the path and noticed that Abiword is looking for the file on a path that doesn't exist. The path that does exist looks like this: /usr/share/abiword-2.6/help/en-US/interface/dialogpagenumbers.html

Notice that the installed data path lacks the level /Abiword/ that follows /abiword-2.6/

Any fix for this? Is there some way to change Abiword's path for help?

I would have thought that a non-functioning help component within a major application, delivered via a very recent distribution would have raised some flags by now.

If I can fix this myself please give me the instructions. A newbie here, but not afraid to follow clear instructions.

Thanks for helping improve Xubuntu and Abiword. Could you please describe in detail how to reproduce this? In the meantime, all of Abiword Help is available online at http://www.abisource.com/help/en-US/index.html . Thanks again.

Well, open Abiword, choose the menu item Insert, then choose Page Numbers..., then choose Help on the small window which opens. I then get the incorrect path msg from Firefox.

How can I make this more complete for you? This seems a straightforward distro error.

I understand this is important to you. I did provide you with a link to the help files that is valid. Here are the statistics for the bugs we are trying to do something with. As you can see, the numbers are quite large.
Open 50821
Critical 16
New 20936
Unassigned 2681
incomplete bugs can expire 8761
All bugs ever reported 241567

I am looking at hundreds and sometimes thousands of bugs daily trying to help out. That means it might take a little while to get back to one bug. Thanks for trying to help.

I can confirm this bug exists in Xubuntu Intrepid Ibex, 8.10. The fix is to change the path to the help files from:
  /usr/share/abiword-2.6/AbiWord/help/en-US/interface/dialogpagenumbers.html
to:
  /usr/share/abiword-2.6/help/en-US/interface/dialogpagenumbers.html
This removes the directory AbiWord, which is not in the path to the file.

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

Can I assume that the Abiword help error will be fixed in the next xubuntu distribution?
