Bug Description

Binary package hint: vlc

Using VLC 0.9.7.

I just bought an ASUS EeePC 1000 (10.2") netbook running XP Home.

Many dialog boxes in VLC are too "tall" (vertical size) for this netbook's maximum screen resolution. These dialog boxes are not scrollable, so I cannot reach the bottom area and am unable to save my entries as a result.

Since these little netbooks are becoming more and more popular, I wish to report this as a "bug" and request the changing of all dialogs to be vertically scrollable in VLC.

Thanks and regards,

Hello,

Thank you for your reply to my request.

XP Home, as stated in report.. I am now using 0.9.8a with same difficulty.

The ASUS EeePC has a maximum stable desktop screen resolution of 1024 x 600.
It can be adjusted to 1024 x 768, but the desktop is no longer stable, it
now has a vertical scrollbar and must be scrolled up and down to reach all
areas. This is not a very user friendly desktop mode :-/

However, I discovered that even 1024 x 768 is not 'tall enough' for some
non-scrolling VLC dialog boxes. They extend underneath the Windows status
bar, and the "OK", "cancel", etc. buttons can't be clicked unless the
Windows status bar is first hidden or moved out of the way.

This is on any PC I have, not just the ASUS Eee PC.

It would be very helpful and friendly, if all VLC dialog boxes could be
resizeable at least down to 1024x600, and vertically scrollable as
necessary, so every option can be reached on smaller screens.

Thank you for your consideration of this useability feature idea.

Best regards,
Sue Morton

Yep, same here on Jaunty. Though I've had this problem since back with 6.04 and not just with VLC. I don't recall the other apps that have this problem, but man is it frustrating. I'm not sure if it is an error on the app's part for not letting the OS manage the dialogue box, or else Ubuntu is not dynamically sizing or scrolling the box to match the user's screen resolution settings. Since apps like Control Panel scroll properly, I'm going to guess it's the fault of VLC and other apps for setting a fixed dialogue box size and not letting Ubuntu manage it.
