I encountered this bug on karmic 64 bit. Strangely though, the applet still works.

This may probably because the battery applet still uses HAL. I'll port it to upower when I find some time.

Just as sidenote: it seams that this wasn't related related to the 64bit architecture, I encountered this bug on my 32bit system as well.

Implemented UPower backend in revision 1387 in trunk. Please wait for new PPAs to appear. For those who have UPower this should fix this bug. If org.freedesktop.UPower cannot be found on DBus system bus, then it falls back to HAL backend.

I'm not going to add a Devicekit Power backend. Patches are welcome though.

Quick search on packages.ubuntu.com suggests devicekit-power is being used on jaunty and karmic. upower on lucid and maverick.

Currently preferences window seems broken so I'll fix that in another commit.
