Bug Description

It would be great if the nvidia graphics drivers in Jaunty could be updated to the new stable version 180.29 which was just released recently. It contains a number of stability fixes and VDPAU improvements.

nvidia 180.29 packages for Intrepid and Jaunty are available in my PPA:
<https://launchpad.net/~anders-kaseorg/+archive/ppa>
(Using the installer from nvidia.com is not recommended, because it interferes with the package manager in a way that is hard to clean up later.)

Thanks. The drivers from your PPA work great.

For the future, I was wondering how I could package the nvidia drivers into .debs myself, so I don't have to file a new bug every time a new one is released? I Googled, but couldn't find anything useful.

---------------
nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 (180.29-0ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (LP: #327690).
    * Fixed a problem in VDPAU that prevented the overlay-based presentation
      queue from being used on displays connected by component video.
    * Fixed various problems in VDPAU that caused visual corruption when
      decoding certain MPEG-2 video streams.
    * Fixed a crash in VDPAU caused by certain invalid MPEG-2 streams, in
      64-bit drivers for some GPUs.
    * Fixed an X driver performance problem on integrated GPUs.
    * Fixed a stability problem with OpenGL applications using FSAA.
    * Fixed an initialization problem that caused some AGP GPUs to be used
      in PCI compatibility mode.
    * Fixed a bug that could result in stability problems after changing
      clock settings via the Coolbits interface.
    * debian/control.in: add dependency on nvidia-glx-180 to nvidia-180-libvdpau
      since nvidia-180-libvdpau can't be installed if other nvidia-glx-* packages
      contain vdpau (LP: #326720).
