Bug Description

Binary package hint: lxde

I think that gdm could be moved from recommended packages to suggested packages.
As a Kubuntu user with kdm I don't need gdm.

I think that the correct solution is to use the virtual package x-display-manager instead of gdm in recommended packages.

Seems like a reasonable change to me, although the Debian maintainer seems to have some reservations.

From Debian bug:

"If you want wdm | xdm | slim added as Recommends, please confirm if
thses works and lxsession-logout supports them."

Have you tested that other packages providing x-display-manager work with LXDE?

If so, please comment on the Debian bug since it is always better to get something fixed in Debian as well so we don't need to carry a delta forever.

Debian introduced the following Recommends : gdm | x-display-manager in version 0.4.2-1 of lxde-common. Gdm is still the default because upstream recommends it (according to the debian bug).

Set as In Progress as I plan to merge the version 0.4.2.1 (see bug 410852)
