Bug Description

i never touched the apport configuration, i never cared about the apport configuration, but the upgrade wants to have user input:

Setting up apport (0.145) ...

Configuration file `/etc/default/apport'
 ==> Modified (by you or by a script) since installation.
 ==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
   What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
    Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
    N or O : keep your currently-installed version
      D : show the differences between the versions
      Z : background this process to examine the situation
 The default action is to keep your current version.
*** apport (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ? y

Seen the same thing on a 8.10 -> 9.04 beta dist-upgrade. Am sure I didn't alter the default/apport file as I have /etc in bzr on this box.

Changed in apport:
status: New → Confirmed

The reason is that update-manager temporarily enables apport right before the upgrade, to catch package failures, etc.

This won't be an issue for the final release, since update-manager will disable this apport enabling for final.

The new conffile in jaunty adds two comment lines, thus the simple s/enabled=0/enabled=1/ in u-m causes this delta.

affects: apport (Ubuntu) → update-manager (Ubuntu)

This bug was fixed in the package update-manager - 1:0.111.1

---------------
update-manager (1:0.111.1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * DistUpgrade/DistUpgrade.cfg:
    - ensure that dontzap is installed on kubuntu (LP: #349263)
    - ensure to not upgrade to a known broken python2.6 (e.g.
      if the mirrors do not catch up)
  * DistUpgrade/DistUpgradeController.py:
    - avoid conffile prompt because we enabled apport (LP: #348301)
    - deal better with apt ordering bugs and restore the system
      cleanly in this case
    - when commenting out third party sources, leave a space
      between previous comments (thanks to Sidnei da Silva)
  * DistUpgrade/DistUpgradeCache.py:
    - add "BadVersions" config option
  * UpdateManager/Core/MetaRelease.py:
    - ignore bad header line errors (LP: #353335)
  * UpdateManager/UpdateManager.py:
    - start minimized when run with --no-focus-on-map (LP: #353195)
    - set urgency hint when in the background (LP: #353195)
  * po/*.po:
    - updated translations from rosetta
