Devede 3.14 works fine under Ubuntu 9.04. I still hasn't updated to 9.10, so I can't test this problem. Anyway, please, run devede from a command line, check there the error returned and post it here to try to debug it.

So... I have this issue too.
If run devede from console gives me this: See attach.

This start with mencoder 2:1.0~svn29714... with the 2:1.0~rc2-0ubuntu19 works fine.

So, if downgrade mencoder devede works fine again.

I'm the creator of devede. I tested it with Ubuntu 9.10 (32 bits) and it works fine. Maybe is a problem with Mencoder 64 bit?

Maybe... I not use 32 bits
If the problem is mencoder 64bits... well, downgrade it fix this issue.

by the way... nice app (devede)

It's got to be mencoder's problem. If I do not increase the audio or video quality (normally I max them both out) the conversion works fine.

I think I pinned it down. It works when I mess with the quality settings, but will fail if I choose any deinterlacing options other than 'do not deinterlace.'

Same problem here. In standard newbie English: how did you guys get it to go with 9.10?

It works fine if you don't change any of the deinterlacing options.

I removed the package and replaced it with the older version. Works now

Thanks.

Find the older version here:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+package/devede

You must use synaptic to remove the newer version first. Use GDebi installer to install the old version from the link above.

I'm the author of Devede: can someone try with Devede 3.16.5 (available in my homepage: http://www.rastersoft.com/programas/devede.html ) and try to reproduce the bug? I'm currently using Ubuntu 64, version 9.10 and works fine.

I recommend to run it from a command line, using

    devede_debug

to get a debug file. Just create the DVD as usual, and then it fails, exit Devede and post here the file devede.debug that you will find in your personal folder. That should give me more info about the bug.

Conversion failed seems a bug of Mencoder.

I did get it to work on one file! But not sure what I did differently.

This bug in NOT fixed as stated! Where are the QC techs that were assigned to this ticket?

Can we get this resolved?

Adding the PPA for jon-severinsson-ffmpeg is NOT an alternative because it breaks ffmpeg for the whole system and other applications that depend on gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg (I.E Minitube).

Can we get some intelligence assigned to this ticket so that it is IN FACT resolved and not just stated as being fixed - from the notes, its been broken for 3 years – REDICULOUS!

Im running a fully patched version on 12.04. The rest of the information in the ticket is relevant to my setup, so no need to spew more logs or error data!

My recomendation is to get Jon Severisson to package up a propor Ubuntu package that the rest of us can use.

There is a simple enough workaround:

As one of the users in the other bug report concluded, "the workaround worked for me but this should be fixed at the repository level. Users should not be required to Google bug fixes."

On Ubuntu 13.04 using the Devede version in the repository (v3.23.0), there is no option to change as suggested in the workaround posted above. But you can change the option in Preferences to use mencoder rather than avconv.
