thank you for your bug report, that's not a bug though since you don't use the thunderbird ubuntu version and nautilus-sendto can't know about your weird custom installation

Is there a way to get the one from mozilla to turn up in there? The mozilla messaging one (not the ubuntu provided one) used to work with my hardy and intrepid nautilus-sendto. So from a user point of view its "broken".

why not using the ubuntu package for it? where is installed the binary and how is it named?

This is interesting...i installed the thunderbird package from the repos and it still does not show up in the send to. So I must be doing something wrong. This is a fresh install. Can you tell me from your end if you get the same.

Thanks.

I tried both thunderbird and mozilla-thunderbird which were present in the drop down list of the preferred programs.

I can confirm that this problem exists with a repository-install of Thunderbird. In fact, this behavior is caused by the upgrade to 9.04. With Intrepid I had the "send-to" option for Thunderbird. Now the option no longer exists.

I have also upgraded from Intrepid to Jaunty and my option for send to with Thunderbird is gone too.

did you try the evolution option? the name is misleading it's using the default email client

When I choose Evolution option nothing happens and I have Thunderbird as default.

Aha! That works. But how are we supposed to know that.

P.S. attaching multiple files does not work unless we use the handy zip attachment feature included.

Thanks.

David, did you use Thunderbird from the repos or from mozilla. If from mozilla put a symlink from /opt/thunderbird/thunderbird into /usr/bin

I only have thunderbird installed. But I have symlinks for both mozilla-thunderbird and thunderbird

Ok, you have the ubutnu version installed ... so after you right click on a file on your desktop for instance and click on send to, choose evolution from the drop down "send as" field, fill in all required information and click on send, a thunderbird compose email window does not open?

that is correct

is the issue the text used or the option not working?

Sebastian,

Aha. Yes, the problem *is* the text. Currently, the destination reads: "Email (Evolution)." This is confusing because it led me to assume that Thunderbird was not being supported.

Perhaps it should not have the parenthetical remark to avoid confusion? I can confirm that the function works property (will attach a file to Thunderbird email).

David Laurell still seems to be having a problem though. It works for me when I choose evolution.

I tried the other options in "send to..." and it doesn't work to send to pidgin either when choosing to send to a msn account. Send a file to "Removable disks and shares" works though.

I can attach a file if someone can say what command I should use or what they need to know to fix this problem.

I switched default to evolution and then back to thunderbird and now when i choose the "send to (evolution)" option it just starts thunderbird and then does nothing...

Thanks guys - I confirm the above bug - change the default to and from thunderbird in Preferred Applications - and now when I send to Evolution, it opens the Thunderbird 'Write Mail' window.

I can ignore that for now.

The confusion was just the naming then right?

Larry Tate (cathect) wrote :

Sebastien,

Hm, I think there is actually more than just the naming here. Send to is only opening a Thunderbird email if I enter an address in the field "Send to:"

To reproduce:

1. Right click on a file.
2. Select "Email (Evolution)" from drop box.
3. Click Send.

The result is that nothing happens; the dialog box just disappears and Thunderbird does not open.

However, if *any* data is placed in the "Send to:" field, things work perfectly and Thunderbird opens with the file attached to a new email.
