Bug Description

In up to date kernel in Jaunty I encountered on my PC nasty bug.

It resulted in corrupted packages where checksum didn't match. Of course, this can damage other downloaded files as well, but these usually don't have checksums and so problem isn't so obvious.

Network card is integrated on motherboard M4A78 PRO.

lspci
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Attansic Technology Corp. Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller (rev b0)

I had to run update-pciids before running ldpsi, though.

Correct OSS driver is provided on CD bundled with motherboard (see attachment which actually isn't patch, but whole source) or can be downloaded here:
http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/wal2/atheros_attansic.html but I tested inly that provided in attachemnt.

After installing that new driver, I no longer have problems with incorrect checksums.

That module can be compiled and installed this way:

sudo KBUILD_NOPEDANTIC=1 make install

As I said, it is officialy supplied driver and thus should cause no harm. License is GPLv2.

I hope it shall be incorporated soon.

Thank you for your work.
Feel free to ask further info.

I have tried to download Ubuntu ISO after applying that driver shipped with Motherboard by downloading Ubuntu ISo nad checking md5 and it was repeatedly corrupted.

Same with kernel 2.6.29 in openSUSE Factory. In Windows it was OK.
