As requested in the mailing list.
I have a Dell Latitude E6400 laptop.
The noise is also present if the speaker are muted.

As requested in https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2009-July/028606.html, I installed the test kernel on a Dell Latitude E6400 (Codec: IDT 92HD71B7X).
The popping sound seems to be gone with that kernel.
