I tried re-installing, but the same error happened.

I'm using Ubuntu Karmic Koala Alpha 6 on a 32 bit machine.

Also am seeing the same behaviour in Ubuntu 9.10.

Does not seem to be effecting open DVD's, just encrypted.

Just got it to work by installing every DVD backup program I could find (DeVeDe, dvdRip, Dvd95) and then reinstalling libdvdcss with these instructions: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats/PlayingDVDs. It will now open a encrypted DVD and am in process of making a backup.

Running Ubuntu Karmic Koala x86 and ran into crash issue. Did not have libdvdcss2 installed. Adding medibuntu repositories and installing libdvdcss2 solved the issue.

Solutions:
* make libdvdcss a dependency of k9copy
** Con: libdvdcss not available in the Ubuntu repositories
* contact k9copy developers and have them write a check for libdvdcss into the program so that k9copy complains about the lack of the library, but doesn't segfault.

Is there any owner of this package we can get to make this change?

Bit more information. Since k9copy works on unprotected DVDs, technically doesn't "depend" on libdvdcss.

If possible, the k9copy should at least "suggest" libdvdcss.

Check to see if your ~\<user>\.kde folder has the ownership set to root. If it's owner is set to root then change the ownership to <user>. Worked for me.

This only happens on certain dvds for me... I'm thinking that this may be related to a type of encryption that libdvdcss2 can't seem to crack.
