the current binary depends on python-gnome-desktop but it should depends on the components it uses rather

We depend on the gnomekeyring bindings which are packaged with a bunch of other items in python-gnome2-desktop. To change this dependency, the gnomekeyring module needs to be split out into a separate binary package, otherwise it's going to get pulled in no matter how we express the dependency on it.

Oh ok. You should have mentioned the modules were split into separate binary packages now in Karmic. I didn't realize that. After discussing on IRC though, I agree we need to change this.
