Unable to install initramfs-tools in Dapper Beta 386

Bug Description

Installation fails on my Athlon box (see below) because during the base system installation the iniramfs-tools package can't be installed. This also happened with Dapper flight 6, but not before that.

The CD (a CD-RW actually) seems to be ok: I first checked the downloaded ISO image with md5sum, and it was ok; after that I checked the CD with the included utility, and again no errors.

See also bug 37527.

My system:

CPU: Athlon XP 2200+
Motherboard: Asus A7N8 nForce2
RAM: 512Mb
Video: ATI Radeon 9000
Audio: nForce2 APU
3 EIDE disks
1 CD/DVD recorder

Do you get any useful error messages? "fails to install" isn't terribly helpful, when I can't reproduce this (and, obviously, neither can most other testers, or I'd have a mess of duplicates of this)

Well, that's what the installer program says, so don't blame the poor
user :) but of course you're right.

I burned another CD (different brand), checked it (fine again) and tried
another installation, this time fortunately I followed an advice I read
about in the Ubuntu Forum and saved the syslog on an existing partition.
You'll find it in attachment, hope it can help. If you have any
suggestion about other files that might help you I can try again and
save what's needed.

Ciao

Hi Matt,
I noticed I actually forgot about the log and sent another mail including
it in attachment, I see it didn't make it! (Perhaps because I sent it
straight to Adam? In the which case he's got the log). I'm now in the USA,
will send it next week (hoping it's not too late ...).

Ciao

Hi,
I actually did a dist-upgrade on both of my computers (desktop and laptop), so didn't have a chance to verify if the problem is still there. Furthermore, I assume this would be relevant only if I used the "alternate" install CD. If you really need a test to close the bug I could make an install on an empty partition.

Ciao

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to close this for now, since there isn't an active problem. If you end up able to reproduce it and can attach the logs, please feel free to re-open this bug. Thanks!
