Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

It's easy to reproduce, just get alpha-5, and hit Forward on the "Where are you?" screen.

I'm having a hard time figuring out why on earth aren't the Region and Zone fields preseeded like they used to be, based on locale chosen in the first installer step. It's not even consistent with the rest of the installer behaviour, because it preseeds the keyboard layout choice based on the locale.

With jaunty, to install Ubuntu I just hit Forward a couple of times until I get to partitioning, now I have to choose my Region and Zone from a long list. Even if I choose the "Europe" region it still doesn't preseed the "Zone" field with my language. This is entirely unnecessary work, it used to work fine, now it doesn't.

They should most certainly be preseeded. Can you please run the installer in debug mode (`ubiquity -d`) up to the timezone page, then attach a screenshot, /var/log/syslog, /var/log/installer/debug, and /var/log/partman to this bug report?

Thanks!

Hmm, there is no /var/log/partman, I haven't moved to the partitioning stage.

Anyway, the logs I attached are from the exact moment the screenshot was taken. The crash will happen if I click Forward here, but that hasn't been recorded in the logs obviously. If you want the logs from the crash as well then just ask.

I think this is probably reproducible for any case where we only have one default timezone rather than a shortlist.

The gtk frontend was assuming a shortlist for countries. Fixed this by simplifying the logic that found an entry for a given country.

  * Suppress Pango warning about not being able to open /root/.pangorc.
  * Use the page name instead of the new step name when considering both
    partitioning pages.
  * Fix broken conditional statement that prevented

  * Disable the forward button for the usersetup page when coming from
both the automatic and manual partitioning pages, rather than just
    the latter.
  * Open a browser window when links are clicked on in the slideshow
