Thank you for reporting this. I still see msttcorefonts as a transitional package in Karmic, so I don't think we need a String Freeze exception for it, but I'll provide a patch.

Here is the patch. If package names don't require translation, then this patch should be safe for a string freeze exception.

In fact, package names probably should not be translated, but all of them is translatable (which can only lead to trouble, for example, I have changed back one translated instance of "recode" in kubuntu-docs today :))
However, I don't know the situation for non-latin scripts, so translating may make sense.

Actually I noticed after some other bug work that flashplugin-nonfree is also a transitional package now, replaced by flashplugin-installer. Here is a replacement diff for my previous patch which changes both lines.

If the current package names aren't broken so that the current instructions work, I'd prefer to change this in the next cycle. Changing the strings will mean that they will require re-translation so this should be kept only to those absolutely necessary, I think.

I'm open to being corrected though.

If package names are actually translated into other languages, then I agree we should wait, If they aren't part of translation, it should be safe to apply the patch since no other text is in the diff (the package names are standalone lines) and tags don't get translated.

They are part of the translation, I'm afraid. The strings where these
names appear are just regular strings.

The translators should leave them as they are, but changing the string
will still require the translator to retranslate the string.

Having discussed this with Connor on irc, we've decided to include this patch - the affected strings are all completely "language-neutral" so it's safe to change them.

Thanks for the patch Connor.
